Anne and I are trying a more minimalist approach to the Easter Services this year. Trolling through our tried and true resources we find many of them to be chocked full of words… we Presbyterians emphasise the preaching of the Word but attend to that worthy intent with far too many words!
The image I am using for Easter Sunday is Koder’s Lord’s Supper… we will be gathering around a table and recalling the gospel stories of Jesus being recognised at meals… in Koder’s painting Jesus, the host, is seen by the observer, but not fully. That is for me how we experience the Risen Christ… we see where he has been and where he invites rather than see him face to face. And at the Table, at the Eucharist, at this Last Supper transformed into a Resurrection meal, we glimpse him more profoundly. (Alas, already, too many words!)
