I read yesterday in the newspaper (The Christchurch Press Your Weekend supplement) that sitting is bad for you. One person quoted talked of sitting as the new smoking. Apparently we are sitting too much and even 30 minutes excercise a day isn’t enough to stove off the effects of sitting.
It got me thinking. Some years ago medical people suggested that a glass of red wine a day is good for you and then within no time at all we were told it is bad (I have ignored the second level advice). We were told to eat more veges and fruit – and we did. We were told to quit smoking so we did even if we hadn’t started. We were told to get our cholestral levels down and we did only to find that they have set a lower level. Now we can’t sit.
I want to know who these people are and what will finally satisfy them. I wonder if we stop living will we have reached their target? But by then, in all the effort to stay alive, will we have lived?
